The proposed facility is a new museum extension for MISF (Museene i Sogn og Fjordane) and SUM (Sunnfjord Museum), situated by Movatnet in Sunnfjord. Perched on the slopes of a hill above a scenic outdoor museum, the project emphasizes on the dialogue between the cultural and natural landscape. There are two main structural elements that define the museum building: the linear formed visitor center and office administration emerging as a horizontal landmark and three concrete blocks comprising storage facilities and exhibition areas, slicing through the steep-sided landscape, providing an observation platform to the surrounding nature. The monolithic volumes of the edifice aim to weave together nature and museum; it is simultaneously an extension of both, creating a social, visual and spatial permeability, designed to highlight the museum’s character: a social sustainability in which inclusion and dialogue figure as key elements.
